The golden desert sun embraced me on that day, ten years ago, when I first emerged from the dark labyrinth that is the Gerudo Training Ground, my guard glaive in one hand and the coveted Arrow of Ice in the other. I held the frosted treasure above my head triumphantly, for my instructors and fellow students to see. They applauded, my sister Jinay and some of my closer friends cheered, and the glory of the moment was infinite.

Ezio let out a grunt as his face collided with the hard tiles of the courtyard. The impact did not hurt that much, but the humiliation of finding himself seeing the stone up close stung at least as much. By now, he had stopped counting how many times he had found himself flat on the ground, but he knew it were many and that did not please him at all.

Still, he did not have time to sulk about his predicament, as he heard footsteps coming up to his side, before feeling a boot nudging him in the ribs. The motion was accompanied by an emotionless, matter-of-fact voice that he had come to truly despise these last few months.

The next few months after my training completion were full of excitement. From early childhood up until the day of my induction into the Guard, I had been rigorously learning to fight. Now, I began sneaking into Hylian territory with Jinay to learn on-the-job how to steal. Our first tasks together were just simple necessities: stealing food, milk and grain from the nearby Lon Lon Ranch. Soon after, we were venturing all the way to Castle Town and Kakariko Village to pilfer off the works of the Hylian peasants. But our grandest theft, inside the majestic Hyrule Castle itself, was yet to come.

My entry for the

contest. The theme is "2 Years Later."

The joke was that two years after the game, in 2014, the Templars would have ultimately lost to the Assassins, and to make ends meet they break into the tourist industry and repackage the Animus as a "vacation through time" device.

The announcer voice is my friend Willa. She works at Wal-Mart, and thus enjoys parodying those overly-happy commercial spokespersons. The disclaimer at the end was meant to sound like the Animus voice.
